The Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness program is a four-year degree course designed to produce educated, well-rounded professionals in agribusiness capable of meeting the national and global needs for highly trained managers, academicians, researchers, extensionists and entrepreneurs. Specific professions/careers/occupations/trades that graduates may go into are corporate planners, entrepreneurs, business consultants/managers, sales representatives, credit analysts, teachers, researchers and extensionists. To finish the program, the students must complete 158 units including a case study write up of their six-unit internship conducted in an agribusiness enterprise either locally or abroad.
The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program aims to educate students in the scientific habit of thought, entrepreneurial skills and prepare them to become professionals with entry-level competencies in technical agriculture. Specific professions/careers/occupations/trades that graduates may go into are in research, farm management, agriculture and food technology, entrepreneurship, and business in agriculture and teaching. Major field of specialization of the program that students can choose from includes Animal Science which focuses either on ruminant, non-ruminant, or dairy production; Crop Science that focuses on either agronomy, horticulture, organic agriculture, or plant breeding; and Crop Protection where students can specialize in either Entomology, Plant Pathology or Weed Science. Moreover, they can also conduct thesis or field practice in the areas of Soil Science, Agricultural Economics, and Agricultural Extension Education.
The Bachelor of Arts in Filipino is a four-year degree program that will develop the skills of the students in the structure of Filipino language, broad knowledge of the theories and practices in language, communication, literary works, creative writing, analytical research, and translation of written works from foreign and native language to Tagalog and vice versa.
The program specializes in literary and cultural studies. It has an immersive curriculum in which students are not only given classroom and traditional instructions but also the opportunity to be exposed to different cultures and areas of literature and its allied disciplines, such as cultural studies, environmental studies, and media studies. It intellectualizes the language and the study of literature in that it gives importance to the study of the Literatures of Central Luzon, the Literatures of the Americas, the Literatures of Europe, the Literatures of Asia, Literatures of Africa, among others. It is a unique literature program for it is the only degree program in Region III that offers bilingual literary studies. It is specific enough to build a good foundation based on literature-specific disciplinary specialization, yet at the same time leaves ample room for the students to explore language and cultural studies. Furthermore, it features a strong practicum network in which students can be trained in their chosen future profession.
The program was first implemented by the Department of Social Sciences in 1993. It draws on the traditional strength of the liberal arts degree program – that of molding and equipping students with multidisciplinary knowledge and skills and critical mindedness attuned with individual and community/national development. Since its first implementation, it has undergone two major curriculum revisions to respond to emerging needs in changing times. The program has two areas of specialization: history and political science.
The course is designed to produce globally competitive professionals equipped with relevant knowledge, attitude, and skills needed in teaching, managing, and implementing communication programs for development. They are trained to use appropriate knowledge and technology in dealing with industrial, community, and cultural diversity, environmental and political concerns to advance society in the local and global arena. Students will be trained to demonstrate effective communication skills, the ability to work well either individually or as part of the team who uphold professional ethics and standards and practice social responsibility.
The program has an emphasis on the individual person and how the person’s mental processes and behaviour are affected by internal, relational and social factors. Psychology as a discipline and professional practice contributes to national development through basic and applied research and interventions and aimed at solving problems and promoting optimal development and functioning at the individual, family, group, organizations/institutions, community, and national levels. The undergraduate programs in psychology provide initial training for those interested in teaching, research, and the practice of psychology. Furthermore, the program provides preparation for graduate studies in psychology as well as further studies in other professions such as medicine, law, and business management
The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSAc) is a four-year degree program that uses learner-centered and outcomes-based approaches to prepare students for careers in accounting and related fields. It aims to cultivate the students’ leadership qualities and ability to support varied stakeholders. The program trains the students to become competent and ethical professional accountants who are capable of making positive contributions to the profession and the society. It offers opportunity for students to undergo an on-the-job training with partner institutions. Students gain professional knowledge, skills, values, ethics and attitudes that enable them to continue learning and adapting to change throughout their professional lives. Graduates of the course may pursue careers as accountants in the sectors of public and private practice, government, commerce, industry, and the academe
The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program teaches students the interrelationships among the different functional areas of business such as economics, human resource management and marketing management. The program is designed to help students develop their critical and analytical thinking, human relations, communication, quantitative, and technical skills which are all needed to successfully serve as business leaders in both public and private sectors. Since the course is multidisciplinary, graduates may pursue careers as entrepreneurs and visionaries in financial, marketing, resource development, academe and industrial sectors. Specifically, BSBA major in Business Economics graduates can become researchers, corporate executives, public administrators, development planners, industrial analysts, financial advisers, and even as academicians. The BSBA major in Human Resource Management (HRM) graduates can become human resource executives, office administrators, personnel development officer, compensation and benefits planners, service development officer and payroll specialists. And the BSBA major in Marketing Management can become entrepreneurs, sales and marketing executives, product developers and innovators, advertising managers, and media influencers.
The Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BSEntrep) Program teaches students the importance and benefits of creating an enterprise which brings wealth and contributes to economic and social development of the society. Small business education or entrepreneurship development would be taught by introducing the process of generating idea through opportunity seeking, preparation of a business plan and finally, for the students to have a substantial hands-on experience of putting up and working on with their desired business venture. Different programs and policies as a way to support start-up businesses towards entrepreneurial development will be given emphasis so as to motivate students to run their own enterprise upon graduating rather than become mere employees or workers for other people, firms or any institution.
The Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting (BSMA) is a four-year non-board degree program that provides graduates with necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes in providing vital financial information relevant to the organizations’ management decision. The program trains students in devising, planning, and providing expertise in financial reporting, performance management systems and formulation of organizational policies, procedures, and strategies. It offers opportunity for students to undergo an on-the-job training with the partner organizations. It also aims to produce globally competent graduates who are capable of applying accounting, financial and business management principles while upholding professional values and practicing ethics, thereby enabling them to continue learning and adapting to change throughout their professional lives. Graduates of this course may pursue careers in the sectors of commerce and industry, government, and the academe.
Culture and Arts Education is a field of specialization engaged (i) in clarifying the conceptual foundations of value-laden creative expressions such as visual arts, music, drama, and dance, (ii) in defining its relations to other disciplines of thought and action that address the fundamental question of what it means to creatively express the condition of being human in changing life-worlds, (iii) in analyzing the conditions and possibilities for crafting and asserting creative expressions of being human diverse contexts, and (iv) in developing programs responsive to local and global contexts of production, circulation, and consumption of creative expressions. It aims to develop highly motivated and reflexive teachers in basic education equipped with knowledge, skills, and values in culture and arts education.
The program is designed to prepare students for teaching and supporting young children’s learning and development. It equips students with a fundamental understanding of the principles, developmentally, and appropriate practice, and application of early childhood care and education. It aims to educate individuals to become competent early childhood practitioners working with children from 0 to 8 years old in various early childhood settings.
The program is designed to prepare students intending to teach at the elementary level. It draws from various allied disciplines like social sciences, science, math, technology, languages, and humanities to ensure that graduates are equipped with the skills necessary in handling both the content and pedagogy across all disciplines at the elementary level.
The program is a seamless activity of designing and delivering learning activities, providing quality instructions, managing the classroom, and assessing student learning, modeling as well as mentoring. PE is aimed to equip graduates with the competencies to meet the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective needs of learners. PE also aimed at physical literacy, which serves as the foundation of confident, enjoyable, and sustained participation in a wide range of physical activities, optimize health through learning experiences likewise extend beyond the classroom; hence, student learning must be reinforced through programs on school and community recreation, as well as organized, competitive sports. PE draws from the knowledge base of the allied fields: exercise and sports sciences, life sciences, social and behavioral sciences; and employs interdisciplinary instruction as a means to permeate all aspects of the learners’ lives and develop them integrally.
The program is designed to equip learners with adequate and relevant competencies to teach in their chosen area of specialization/major at the secondary level. It draws from various allied disciplines like English, Filipino, Mathematics, Science, and Technology, Social Science, and Values Education to ensure that the graduates have a multi-disciplinary preparation in content and pedagogy. It aims to develop highly motivated and competent teachers specializing in the content and pedagogy for the secondary level.
The program is an undergraduate teacher education program that equips learners with adequate and relevant competencies in the area of Technology and Livelihood Education, particularly for the TLE exploratory courses from Grades 4-8. It aims to develop highly competent and motivated teachers in Technology and Livelihood Education for Grades 4-8. The technology livelihood education curriculum shall impart a body of knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and experiences that will provide prospective Grade 4-8 EPP/TLE Teachers with the necessary competencies essential for effective teaching and at the same time are accredited TVET Trainers and Assessors.
The BSABE program is designed to produce graduates who possess knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the application of engineering science and designs to the processes and systems involved in the sustainable production, post-production, and processing of safe food, feed, fiber, timber, and other agricultural and biological materials; the efficient utilization, conservation, and management of natural and renewable resources; and development of climate change mitigation measures, in order to enhance human health in harmony with the environment. Agricultural and Biosystems (AB) consist of crops, poultry, livestock, fisheries and aquaculture resources, forestry and other plants, new and renewable energy, wastes, natural resources, and climate. The graduates of BSABE are expected to understand and apply engineering science and designs to identify, analyze, and create solutions for problems concerning land development; irrigation and drainage including dams, farm roads and bridges; AB production machinery; new and renewable energy; AB buildings and structures; postharvest and processing technologies; climate change, and natural resources, environmental and waste management.
Civil Engineering is a profession that applies the basic principles of Science in conjunction with mathematical and computational tools to solve problems associated with developing and sustaining civilized life on our planet. Civil Engineering works are generally one-of-a-kind projects; they are often grand in scale, and they usually require cooperation among professionals of many different disciplines. The completion of a civil engineering project involves the solution of technical problems in which information from numerous sources and myriad non-technical factors play a significant role. Some of the most common examples of civil engineering works include bridges, buildings, dams, airports, ports and harbors, highways, tunnels, towers, and water distribution systems. Civil Engineers are concerned with flood controls, landslides, air and water pollution, and the design of facilities to withstand earthquakes and other natural hazards. Civil Engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines both in terms of the range of problems that fall within its preview and in the range of knowledge required to solve those problems.
The BS Information Technology program includes the study of the utilization of both hardware and software technologies involving planning, installing, customizing, operating, managing and administering, and maintaining information technology infrastructure that provides computing solutions to address the needs of an organization. The program prepares graduates to address various user needs involving the selection, development, application, integration, and management of computing technologies within an organization.
This program involves the application of concepts in fisheries biology, the study of fish, their ecosystem, food habits, diseases occurring in them, breeding practices, farming and husbandry, scientific concepts used in the capture, processing, preservation with interdisciplinary information from different fields like Oceanography, Economics, Ecology, and Genetics.
The program is designed to produce competent, virtuous, productive, and well-rounded food technologists who can show excellent, world-class, and globally competitive standards of service in the different aspects of food manufacture. The curriculum is customized to provide students with a deep understanding of food technology and the competencies the food industry requires.
The program is geared towards producing highly competent fashion designers and merchandisers in the textile and apparel industry who can engage in innovative product development using computer-aided design (CAD) with integrative knowledge on aesthetic, cultural, and contemporary trends and technologies; and possessed entrepreneurial and managerial capabilities.
Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management prepares students to be globally competitive in the various segments of the hospitality industry that includes but not limited to: food and beverage, lodging, leisure and recreation, culinary and MICE, through the integration of culminating activities, stay and learn program, industry immersion and on-the-job training and research. The curriculum outlines the enhancement of skills and competencies in guest relations, front and back-of-the-house operations, creative and critical thinking, and entrepreneurship.
Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) is a four-year degree program that schemes to embed a holistic approach in the field of tourism. To better acquaint students with the actual industry, the course outlines stay and learn programs, industry immersion, on-the-job training, and research. The BSTM equips students with skills in customer service, innovational problem solving, a pro-active approach in operational proficiency, intellectual curiosity, and importantly, growing awareness in promoting sustainability in tourism. The program is designed to cater to the growing needs and demand of the tourism industry that includes but not limited to: travel and tour agencies, food and lodging and meetings, incentives, conferences, and events (MICE) management.
The program is structured as a generalized framework of study with the end view of grounding students with the fundamental concepts, principles, and theories of the biological, natural, and physical sciences and the conduct of research. This includes the acquisition of appropriate information in both written and oral form.
The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is a four-year degree program that teaches students the conduct of standard laboratory procedures involved in chemistry and the use of chemical instrumentation in analytical and synthetic work. Important skills such as monitoring, observation, and measurement of chemical properties, systematic recording, and documentation are also included in the curriculum. Graduates of BS in Chemistry may pursue a career path in pharmaceuticals, food and beverage companies, cosmetics companies, oil and petroleum companies, mineral companies, and chemical manufacturing companies, and clinical facilities. They may apply as a process chemist, industrial chemist, agricultural chemist, analytical chemist, clinical biochemist, cosmetic chemist, chemical analyst, or a chemistry teacher or professor.
The program is designed to provide students the ability to generate new knowledge and innovation related to the environment, to contribute to the protection and management of the environment, and to analyze local environmental issues and problems in the regional and global context by applying appropriate multidisciplinary and integrated tools and approaches related to environmental problems and concerns. The students in the program may choose one of the five major fields: Environmental Conservation and Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry, and Environmental Engineering.
The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program focuses on enhancing analytical and critical thinking skills. It provides substantial exposure to the breadth and depth of mathematics from classical to contemporary, and from theoretical to applied. It covers foundational courses in the core area of mathematics as well as advanced courses that will help prepare graduates to pursue higher studies or work in a variety of fields such as education, statistics, actuarial science, operations research, risk management, business and economics, banking and finance, and computing and information technology.
Meteorology is a branch of atmospheric science that deals with the study of weather processes and forecasting. It is an interdisciplinary science, drawing on basic knowledge, theory, and laws from a variety of scientific fields including physics, mathematics, and chemistry, which aid in developing a strong understanding of the physical and dynamical processes affecting atmospheric motions/behavior. This is a vast and complex field of study that also involves land-ocean-atmosphere interactions. The atmosphere has been studied for a variety of reasons, including severe and extreme weather systems (e.g. tropical cyclones), agriculture, military defense, navigation, and disaster risk reduction and management. Current advances in this field include big data analytics, high-resolution numerical modeling, and ensemble nowcasting, and long-range forecasting.
The BS Statistics program is a four-year program that develops students’ knowledge and skills in Statistics. It aims to train students as professional statisticians or data scientists in the government, industry, research agencies, and other institutions. Graduates of the program are equipped with professional expertise in data management and analysis, designing of surveys and experiments, risk analytics and fraud assessment, quality control and optimization, policy evaluation and impact assessment, pattern recognition, data mining, and forecasting.
The program produces well-balanced veterinarians knowledgeable in animal production, welfare, and One Health. This “One Health” paradigm formed the basis of the competencies required by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Guidelines in the Veterinary Education Core Curriculum to promote not only animal health but also the health of the public and the environment. The DVM curriculum aims to accelerate biomedical research discoveries, enhance public health safety, expeditiously expanding the scientific knowledge base, and improve medical education and clinical care. Furthermore, the curriculum was tailored to meet the minimum standards of accreditation bodies and to harmonize with regional, national and international standards in terms of required competencies in order for our graduates to be more globally-competitive and equipped with skills to cope with the challenges of the profession.
